Matchup plan

Aatrox rushes Eclipse + Black Cleaver for high armor pen at two items. Renekton should watch for his third item (Stridebreaker or Sundered Sky) and build grievous wounds or armor later.

Renekton vs Aatrox · Top lane matchup

01

Core game plan

Renekton has strong early pressure, and Aatrox is weak before level 6, making the matchup favorable.

From level 1 to 6, Renekton is in his power spike. Trade aggressively to pressure Aatrox, who can only farm safely.

If Aatrox builds Wardens Mail or Plated Steelcaps to survive, don't chase; freeze the wave to deny him CS.

Levels 1-3: Trade aggressively, pressure his last-hits, and freeze the wave to deny him CS.During laning: Keep up the pressure. If he builds armor, freeze the wave instead of chasing. After level 6: His ultimate is strong, but you can still trade with full Fury.Mid-game: His two-item spike deals high damage. Use E to dodge his Q or Stridebreaker.Teamfights: Build tank items, focus on his engage, and don't let him deal damage freely.

How a strong Aatrox player plays

  1. 1

    Outer Edge Poke

Good Aatrox players will poke you with the outer edge of Q, combo with his passive auto, then back off. You'll lose trades.

  2. 2

    Chain Zone Control

He'll use W when you go for a last-hit, forcing you to use E or get chained, then follow up with Q poke.
