Against Riven, recommend Fleet Footwork. After being poked, use the movespeed to create distance and avoid getting burst down. When building Spear of Shojin first, it's best to save full gold because the components don't provide CDR, hindering Q stacking. If Riven has no summoner spells, consider building Sheen first to increase kill pressure.

Against a Riven of equal skill, Nasus must play passively and farm under turret early, getting pressured before level 6. Only after stacking Q and getting items can he fight.

How a strong Riven player plays

  1. 1

    Wait for you to engage first, then counterattack

    A skilled Riven won't use her abilities proactively. She'll wait for you to last hit or step forward, then combo with Q and W to poke you.

  2. 2

    Freeze the wave to pressure

    Riven will freeze the wave to deny you farm, forcing you to soak XP. The wave will eventually push, and she might even let you die once to reset it.

  3. 3

    Execute at half HP

    With Ignite and Nimbus Cloak, Riven's kill threshold is half your HP. She'll ult, flash, ignite, and burst you down in one combo.
