Matchup plan

If your team lacks AP and the enemy backline is squishy, build AP Malphite to one-shot squishies before teamfights. If the enemy lacks tank-busting, prioritize tank items; if your team lacks AP damage, build some AP. AP Malphite relies on ultimate for damage; building tank only lets you get kited by ADC. If you're prone to dying due to mechanical mistakes, skip Mejai's Soulstealer; other items can still carry.

Malphite vs Yorick · Top lane matchup

01

Core game plan

Against a Yorick of equal skill, Malphite struggles to clear waves early and faces heavy tower pressure. After level 6, without ultimate, Yorick can push towers mindlessly, forcing you to play safe and wait for the jungler.

How a strong Yorick player plays

  1. 1

    Push with R and ghouls

Yorick will use his ultimate and ghouls to mindlessly push, and your slow wave clear makes it hard to stop him from taking towers.

  2. 2

    Chase after E hit

After hitting you with his E, he will chase, but won't overextend if the wave hasn't crossed the river, as he's wary of the jungler.

  3. 3

    Q and auto-attack poke

He will use Q to last-hit and poke you while pushing; maintain distance.
