Katarina's first item must be Hextech Gunblade. Then, adapt: if enemy has many AP, build Morellonomicon; if AD burst is high, build Zhonya's Hourglass for survival. Then add Death's Dance, Void Staff, Rabadon's Deathcap, or Liandry's Torment.

How a strong Vel'Koz player plays

    E Knockup

    Vel'Koz holds his E for when you jump on him; getting knocked up gives him a free combo, then he follows with Q-W to proc passive.

    Q Poke

    At level 1, he pokes you with Q from range while you farm, lowering your HP so you hesitate to jump.

  3. 3

    Freeze Under Tower

    He baits you into pushing, then freezes safely under tower. If you dive, he uses W to clear wave and E to knock you up.
