Matchup plan

Take Ignite. Ghost doesn't help against Sylas because his range is short and you'll enter his E range to farm. Brand has no interrupt, so Ignite is better for damage. First item: Liandry's Torment for CD and mana. Second: Rylai's Crystal Scepter is essential for slow; without it, it's hard to land skills and kite. Third: situational - Void Staff if high MR, Zhonya's or Banshee's for survivability, Oblivion Orb if heavy healing. Finally, Rabadon's Deathcap. Never buy Demonic Embrace; it's overpriced and inefficient.

How a strong Sylas player plays

  1. 1

    Level 1 E to dodge your W

He takes E at level 1. When you cast W, he dashes in with E to dodge and applies his passive for a favorable trade.

  2. 2

    Level 2 E to bait your Q

He dashes in with E to bait your Q, then sidesteps it, uses W to heal, and lands a combo.

  3. 3

    Use minions to counter-trade

When your minions are few, he dashes in to pull you into his minion wave, using minion damage to win the trade.
